Memorial Day 2014

As we celebrate this Memorial Day weekend, let us remember the reason for doing so and be sure to give thanks to our Veterans and our currently serving Service Men and Women.

About this image: Originally created in late 2005, this image is a composite I created from a photograph of some graffiti I thought profound and implying, to me at least, that Freedom is not without effort. The graffiti, long gone now, was on a building on the east side of Hamilton, Ohio.

In Memory – 2013

As I reflect on this Memorial Day 2013, I give thanks to the men and women who have served and sacrificed for the freedoms many take for granted today.  I’m honored to serve as a member of the Patriot Guard standing as needed for those who’ve stood for us.

On Friday, I was honored to escort and stand for Staff Sergeant Daniel Braun and as part of this, we escorted him to Gates of Heaven Cemetery.  Gates of Heaven is the final resting place of my maternal Grand Parents, Paul and Margie Riesenberg.  I made a point to visit with him after my Guard duties were finished.   Paul and Margie also deserve remembrance on this Memorial Day for their service in World War II.   Paul was a Tech Sargent and Margie was a First Lieutenant and assigned to the same unit where they met.

Rest in peace Grandma and Grandad, I miss you.
