… not because my candidate is loosing at this point. That doesn’t make me happy. Not disgusted though. What makes me disgusted is that my vote was wasted. It didn’t count. I was at the polls fifteen minutes before they opened this morning and the line was already out the door. I waited an hour or more to vote. I carefully cast my ballot. I weighed the issues. Several times leading up to today and again today at the poll. I did my research and I made my decision.
How can that be you ask? Simple. Because my carefully cast vote was offset by an 18 year old smart ass kid. Not someone who made an equally careful decision in favor of the other guy. That I could live with. No… this kid cast his vote for president based solely on the fact that one of his buddies told him that there was no way the candidate in question could win Ohio… so, the kid decided he would vote for that candidate for the hell of it.
Let that sink in a moment.
The kid voted for president in the biggest election in a generation based on a whim.
How do I know? Because he bragged about it sitting in my station watching the election results. He then went on to say that he completed the rest of his ballot by simply alternating between Democrat and Republican.
And… his candidate won the state.
I wonder how many other votes for that candidate were cast on a whim…
It must be nice to not give a damn one way or the other about the future.
One of the other kids on the department casually mentioned in the same discussion that he just “didn’t make it to the polls today” despite the fact that he had been sitting idle around the station since three hours before the polls closed.
Did I mention it must be nice to not give a damn one way or the other about the future?
I guess I do have at least one thing to look forward to: When either of them start complaining about the state of the union, I’ll be the one to remind them that since they didn’t properly exercise the right to vote, I don’t want to hear them exercising the right to bitch.
But… I’m still disgusted.
Thanks for listening.
