LST 325 made it’s way upriver toward Pittsburgh recently on it’s annual cruise. This amazing ship was designed to land tanks on beaches, and participated among others, in the invasion of Normandy in WWII. The ship was decommissioned, spent some time under a Greek flag, was decommissioned again and then was acquired by a group of veterans. After some work, she was returned to the US and now is docked in Evanston IL and is open for tours. On her annual cruise, she visits other freshwater ports and is available for tours there.
She was quite the sight to see as I chased her upriver from the campsite on the waverunner to get some pictures!
